AVSS sets production record amid rising global drone demand

Canadian drone company AVSS says it has already built more than 2,000 drone components and systems this fiscal year, surpassing its entire production total from the previous year with several months still remaining.

The milestone marks the strongest manufacturing year in the company’s history and underscores growing global demand for Canadian-designed drone technology. For US drone users and industry observers, it also highlights how manufacturers outside the traditional US and Chinese markets are steadily expanding their presence in commercial, public safety, and government drone sectors.

AVSS, short for Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions, has designed, engineered, and manufactured all of its products in Canada since the company was founded in 2017. It introduced its first drone products in 2020 and says it has now delivered thousands of Canadian-made systems worldwide.

According to the company, roughly 75% of its commercial revenue this fiscal year has come from international customers, with its products operating in more than 35 countries. AVSS says it is also Canada’s largest exporter of drone components and solutions, supported by a network of more than 70 distribution partners around the world.

The company credits its record production year to growing international demand for Canadian-built drone technology. Rather than relying on outsourced manufacturing or licensing foreign technology, AVSS says it has kept product development, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance entirely in Canada.

“Manufacturing more than 2,000 systems year-to-date is an exciting milestone, but what it really represents is the exceptional work of our growing manufacturing team,” says CEO Josh Ogden. He added that the company has already exceeded the production of every previous fiscal year while continuing to manufacture a broad portfolio of drone technologies in Canada.

AVSS first gained recognition for its ASTM F3322-compliant parachute recovery systems, which are designed to improve drone safety and support regulatory compliance. Since then, the company has significantly expanded its product lineup through continued investment in research and development.

Today, its portfolio extends well beyond parachute systems to include drone motors, electronic speed controllers (ESCs), FPV cameras, cold-weather ground control stations, guided aerial resupply systems, air-launched effects, and avalanche mitigation technologies.

That diversification has accelerated in recent years. In 2020, AVSS expanded into guided and unguided aerial delivery systems designed for missions where drones, helicopters, or small aircraft cannot safely land. In 2025, it introduced its Precision Avalanche Management System (PAMS), aimed at helping agencies proactively trigger and manage avalanche risks. Earlier this year, the company also launched its Flying Beehive product line, adding air-launched FPV capabilities alongside new drone components such as motors, ESCs, cameras, and ground control stations.

Ogden says customers increasingly want products backed by strong engineering, reliable manufacturing, and regulatory compliance rather than simply low-cost hardware.

“Our commitment is to build those technologies in Canada, protect Canadian intellectual property, and deliver Canadian innovation to customers worldwide,” he says.

With production already exceeding last year’s total and months still left in the fiscal year, AVSS expects additional growth as it expands its manufacturing capacity and research efforts. The company says it plans to continue investing in Canadian engineering while serving commercial, public safety, military, and government customers across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and other international markets.
