It was just a few days ago that we saw our first potential photo of the DJI Osmo 360, although I called it sketchy and potentially photoshopped. Turns out I might owe Xdrones Studio an apology as over the weekend all the usual leakers shared more photos of the camera, although it’s still uncertain if and when it will come out.
The first leak came from hakasushi on X, showing both the external and internal components of the unreleased 360 camera. The Osmo 360 is apparently 6.5 cm long and 9 cm tall, and it kind of splits the design between an Insta360 X-series camera and the GoPro Max 360.
Hakasushi also shared parts of the Osmo 360’s user manual, although nothing juicy was detailed, mostly just Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and battery details.
A day later Igor Bogdanov shared similar but expanded photos of the camera but referred to it as a “prototype.” This suggests that the first leak last week was likely incorrect in stating that the product was for sale to testers, something we had already assumed wasn’t true.
The vibe of the unknown fate of the Osmo 360 continued to darken as Jasper Ellens shared in his report that he wasn’t even sure the product would be released due to U.S. tariffs and the need for such a low price point.
The GoPro Max goes for $349 while the Insta360 X5 is a bit more expensive at $549. DJI’s offering would need to be somewhere within this price range, something Ellen, I guess, believes isn’t likely.
However, if the testing of the camera is still in its early stages, then we might just be at the point where no one knows if it will make it out of prototyping or not. If we are there, don’t expect a release anytime soon.
