That’s right. Half drone. Half tank. This is the X-Tankcopter. A quadcopter drone with belts that allows it to navigate rough terrain on the ground. And, of course, when the terrain becomes too rough, you can simply take-off and fly away. The X-Tankcopter is the brainchild of Witold Mielniczek a product design and robotics specialist from Poland. After two years of development, Witold has now launched an Indiegogo campaign to bring his invention to the market.
The X-Tankcopter
Currently, the campaign has raised almost $18,000 from 160 backers and is more than halfway to reaching it’s $30,000 goal. The X-Tankcopter is in the prototype stage and I’m sure there will be plenty of challenges still ahead of Witold’s team before they can bring their all-terrain drone to the market. Not all Indiegogo (or Kickstarter) projects come to fruition, so keep that in mind if you consider supporting this one.
Early birds can still get in for $99, which would get you the drone, a remote and the VR goggles.
“The X-TANKCOPTER’s hybrid performance guarantees great fun while exploring new places, that are out of reach for the other vehicles. It can easily cruise through hard terrain, narrow gaps, drift and get to speed on straights, take off and fly fast.”
The X-Tankcopter comes packed with features like:
- Auto Take Off/Landing
- Custom Route
- Gesture Control
- HD Camera live/recording
- 2.4 GHz Remote Controller
- VR Goggles
- Smartphone application
The drone does not have a stabilized camera or gimbal and it only provides (shaky?) 720p HD video footage at 30fps. The footage will be recorded to a MicroSD card.
