Challenge accepted — lighter and smarter DJI gimbal coming

Yesterday DJI’s official Twitter account released a sneak peek video of an upcoming lightweight camera stabilizer, the DJI Ronin SC, which will be announced during the “Challenge Accepted” event on July 17. This marks the first addition to DJI’s professional gimbal line since the DJI Ronin S’ release back at CES 2018.

DJI’s new Ronin SC is lighter and smarter than ever

DJI’s last gimbal, Ronin S was impressive thanks to its relatively low weight and high portability, while keeping the functionality of the larger Ronin models. We expect to see the same great features (and new ones) with the latest Ronin. The new DJI Ronin camera stabilizer looks to be in competition with the FeiyuTech AK2000 and similar models.

An FCC filing filed on behalf of DJI from July 15 shows a Class B Digital Device being submitted with the name Ronin SC/Ronin S Command attached to it. The filing also was submitted with a Focus wheel, Ronin SC camera grip, the Ronin SC itself, as well as a Ronin-SC focus motor along with a Huawei wall adapter and a Canon camera.

What does the video tell us?

From the teaser video released on Twitter and the photo on the DJI website, we can see the gimbal is holding what looks to be a mirrorless camera with a 45 degree angled arm at the back to keep the screen visible. The stabilizer also comes with a tripod base mount and a multi-directional thumb-stick, mode button, and a power button. It also looks like there are 3 indicator lights above the handgrip and controls — possibly power status/mode, camera connection, and phone connection. The stabilizer also has a scroll wheel, presumably to focus and zoom the camera.

We are excited to see what the new camera stabilizer from DJI will be like and would love to hear your thoughts on it in the comments below.
