Apple helps visually impaired students write code and fly Parrot drones

Last weekend during the NYC Drone Film Festival, I joined a session where children were writing code to program Parrot drones. The fact that the students got to fly the drones after they were done coding made all the difference. Those kids were stoked!

That’s also why this news got my attention. Recently Apple experts visited the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to show software that allowed students to write code without having to look at the screen and fly Parrot drones. One of the students, Demetria Ober knows now that being (partially) blind does not mean you cannot program or fly a drone for that matter!

Today Parrot launched their Bebop-Pro Thermal drone, their all-in-one solutions for aerial thermal imaging aimed at small businesses, such as roofers, thermal inspections, and public safety services. The Bebop-Pro Thermal is the fourth addition to Parrot’s Pro line-up for business professionals. Earlier this year they launched the Parrot Disco-Pro AG & Parrot Bebop-Pro 3D Modeling, and more recently with Parrot Bluegrass.

Parrot is on a roll! Last week they announced the new Parrot Mambo FPV mini race drone. Now they just announced the all-new Parrot Bebop 2 Power drone. This new consumer drone in Parrot’s product line-up, offers a longer flight time, up to 30 minutes. It comes with 2 batteries standard, so you can fly for up to an hour. Have you always wanted to try out drone racing? Well, today is your chance! Parrot, the French drone company, just launched the Parrot Mambo FPV (First Person Race) drone. It promises to be a compact, ultra-light, agile and fun to fly mini-drone, that also provides a First Person View (FPV) race experience. We have not yet had a chance to try one ourselves but we’re hoping to do so soon and report about it on this website. If it is anything like the DJI Spark in sports mode we did a first impression earlier, than it should be a lot of fun to fly.
