Using drones to create amazing landscape photos
Photographer Reuben Wu has been painting landscapes at night with the help of drones and LED lights for some time now and the results are some of the most beautiful landscape photos we have come across. Recently, Wu outdid himself by adding drone-created halos over above the rock pinnacles to create a stunning effect. How is he able to achieve this effect, you may wonder? The technique used by Wu is called light painting, where you fly the drone with a light attached while you are taking the photo with a very long exposure. This way you can ‘paint’ the landscape with your LED light. In an interview with Petapixel, Wu says:
“The circles are actual light paths of the modified drone I used to light the landscapes. In some of these images, I’ve evolved my process of intervention where I show the light source in the form of a light path. I see it as a kind of ‘zero trace’ version of land art where the environment remains untouched by the artist and at the same time is presented in a way which is inspired by 19th-century sublime Romantic painting and science and fictional imagery.”
Here is a short video that shows the drone in action.
