DroneDJ’s take

We are quite excited about the DJI Osmo Pocket. It seems to be a perfect vlogger camera setup for the YouTube crowd. One that should give you all the functionality you need at a very competitive price point. At the same time, DJI will offer more functionality with the additional accessories. Will it compete with a DSLR camera/gimbal setup? No, it won’t. But for people on a budget or who like to travel very lightly, the DJI Osmo Pocket might just fit the bill.

We have been able to find out a lot of information about the Osmo Pocket. There are also a number of things we don’t yet know.

For instance, we do not yet have any information on the control wheel we have seen in earlier images (it might control zoom, gimbal of maybe follow-focus but is unlikely given the size of the image sensor). We don’t yet know if the Osmo Pocket is waterproof. Or whether it will have indeed a zoom lens and/or an adjustable aperture. Many people have been asking us whether you will be able to mount an external microphone. Yes, it seems that that will be the case as the device has an extra port. It also comes with 2 microphones built-in which should give you decent sound in somewhat quiet environments. However as soon as there is any wind, you will want to add an external mic.

The price is rumored to be $349 which would put it in direct competition with GoPro. Last time that happened, DJI won. Most likely, you will be able to place your order tomorrow, right after the event at 4 pm EST.

Stay tuned for more information tomorrow!
