It seems that DJI is less focused on drones this year, likely because of all the suspicion around unmanned aircraft to be used as spying devices. Some of the latest products, the Chinese drone maker released have nothing to do with flying at all. They are the DJI RoboMaster S1, the DJI Osmo Action, and the DJI Osmo Pocket, for which DJI released new firmware today.
DJI Osmo Pocket firmware
The DJI Osmo Pocket is a very small, handheld and gimbal stabilized camera that can provide really nice and smooth video footage, assuming there is enough light available. It is not as rugged as the DJI Osmo Action, but it is a camera we use all the time. In today’s firmware update, DJI adds phase detection autofocus to increase the focus speed. We will have to test this but it could be a big improvement as the focus speed was not always very fast, especially in close-up situations. DJI also added support for extension rod. An underwater mode and increased download speed during playback. Hopefully, this firmware update will mean that accessories such as the extension rod and underwater case for the DJI Osmo Pocket will become available soon as well. As of today, you still can’t buy them on the DJI online store. Let us know what you think about this latest firmware update in the comments below.
