Everything DJI announced in the month of February

It was a busy month for DJI fans as the company announced four new products and a frenzy of new features for its various platforms. In case you need a recap, here’s everything new from DJI for the month of February.

New product releases

It was the month of gimbals for DJI as three of the company’s four products released in February were of such. First was the new Osmo Mobile 7 Series, two gimbals that fit into two price brackets, depending on what you need.

The new flagship smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 7P, replaces the Mobile 6 and comes with a new Multifunctional Module for basic tracking and hand gesture support for camera apps other than DJI’s Mimo app. This means you’ll be able to start, stop, or reframe your shot using just your hands. The Module also features a spotlight for illuminating subjects and acts as a DJI Mic Mini receiver for clear, high-quality audio. The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P can be purchased for $149.

Alongside the 7P is the Osmo Mobile 7, the new budget option likely replacing the Mobile SE. It removes the included Multifunctional Module but keeps support for it, and it ditches the extension rod. The Mobile 7 is a great option for those who don’t need much in terms of a gimbal. However, it retains the same upgraded battery and smartphone charging features that also come with the Mobile 7P. The Osmo Mobile 7 is available for purchase for $89.

The final gimbal, announced on February 20, is the new RS 4 Mini. Bringing flagship features from its older sibling, the RS 4 Pro, the RS 4 Mini is perfect for smaller mirrorless cameras. Standard with the RS 4 Mini is the Intelligent Tracking Module, a detachable camera system that allows you to offer basic subject tracking and hand gestures to any camera attached to the gimbal. The RS 4 Mini is available for purchase for $369.

Dock 3

Rounding out DJI’s product announcements was the new Dock 3 with its dock-compatible Matrice 4D and Matrice 4DT drones. The new Dock 3 allows for native vehicle mounting, a first for drone-in-a-box solutions, and the ability to support the powerful new payloads on the Matrice 4 line of enterprise drones.

If you’re looking to purchase a DJI Dock 3, you’ll need to contact an authorized retailer, as DJI doesn’t publicly disclose pricing.

Platform updates

Pocket 3 receives enhanced zone and webcam upgrade

Users of the DJI Pocket 3 received a new firmware update this month with some new awesome features. First, there was a new 2x digital zoom mode with a photo-enhancing tool for better clarity, simulating a 40mm focal length using the same wide-angle camera. While recording, you’ll also notice fewer focus changes due to slight movements in your hand caused by breathing.

Also, for those who use the Pocket 3 as a webcam, you can now access a 10-bit color option for better color quality.

Action 5 new bundle and color mode

For those wanting vibrant-looking videos straight out of the camera with no editing, DJI added the new “Vivid” tone setting in the recent Osmo Action 5. The new mode brings higher contrast and more details to your videos without any post-production needed. DJI also added MTA-supported quick download for Android phones and better underwater performance.

Also added to the Action 5 was the new Essential Combo, giving you only the basics you need to start creating content.

DJI Mimo receives new features

Alongside the release of DJI’s Osmo Mobile 7 Series of gimbals, the Mimo app got some new features, designed to be used together. One of those features was an enhanced tracking mode called Smart Capture that lets you switch between several different subjects in the same scene. This mode will switch focus for you and reframe the shot to keep them as the focus while still having the whole group in the frame.

Also, the Mimo app has several new color grading modes for the Pocket 3 and Action 5 – named after different seasons and flowers.

DJI Terra gets needed improvements

Finally, DJI Terra, the drone manufacturer’s 3D mapping tool, received some much-welcomed updates to improve its processing of turning LiDAR points into 3D maps. A much-needed update for those who use this regularly for professional mapping jobs.
