If your Fourth of July plans include gazing up at the night sky, you have more options than ever this year. While fireworks remain the centerpiece of many Independence Day celebrations, drone light shows are becoming a bigger part of the festivities in communities across the United States. In some places, they’re paired with fireworks to create a bigger finale. In others, they’re the main event, using hundreds of synchronized drones to paint animated American flags, eagles, stars, hometown landmarks, and other patriotic images overhead.
One company you’ll see popping up again and again this holiday weekend is Sky Elements, one of the nation’s largest drone show providers. The Texas-based company has packed its schedule with public performances stretching from New York to California over the Independence Day weekend, giving thousands of spectators a chance to experience aerial storytelling. If you’re still making holiday plans, here’s where Sky Elements says its drones will be taking flight.
July 3: The celebrations start early
Many communities aren’t waiting until July 4 to celebrate, with July 3 shaping up to be one of the busiest nights of the holiday weekend.
In Alpharetta, Georgia, the city will kick off the festivities with a patriotic drone light show designed specifically for its Independence Day celebration.
Over in Smithtown, New York, residents can look forward to synchronized aerial animations celebrating America and the local community.
Texas gets two shows on July 3. Leander will host a music-synchronized performance featuring patriotic imagery, while Irving once again welcomes Sky Elements for its annual celebration after previously partnering with the company for record-setting holiday drone displays.
In Owensboro, Kentucky, organizers are adding a drone show to the city’s Independence Day festivities, while Breezy Point, New York, will also host a choreographed aerial performance.
Idaho joins the lineup with Rexburg, where Sky Elements promises animated patriotic storytelling overhead, while Eunice, New Mexico, is also on the company’s holiday calendar.
Missouri is also hosting multiple drone shows on July 3. Blue Springs will feature a customized drone show as part of its holiday celebration, while St. Charles Riverfest will light up the Missouri River with patriotic 3D animations synchronized to music, complementing the festival’s live entertainment and family activities.
Colorado’s Lakewood (Belmar) joins the list with its own Independence Day drone performance, while California features two early celebrations: Santa Maria’s Red, White & Zoom Fourth of July Drone Show & Festival and Morro Bay’s holiday event, both promising custom aerial animations created by synchronized drone fleets.
Rounding out the July 3 schedule are Cashiers, North Carolina, and Piqua, Ohio. In Piqua, Sky Elements says spectators will see a 150-drone show alongside the city’s sponsored fireworks, making it one of several communities combining both technologies into a single celebration.
July 4: Independence Day drone shows take flight
The holiday itself features another packed schedule.
In Santa Fe, New Mexico, Franklin E. Miles Park will host a choreographed drone light show synchronized to music alongside the city’s municipal fireworks as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Sky Elements says its fleet will create patriotic formations and storytelling that complement the fireworks throughout the finale.
One of the weekend’s most ambitious productions is planned for Bismarck, North Dakota. During the city’s Red, White & Boom celebration, Sky Elements says its drones will fly in perfect synchronization with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra and an upgraded fireworks display, creating what it describes as one seamless grand finale.
In St. Louis, Missouri, visitors to Grant’s Farm can catch “Grant’s Farm in the Sky: A Drone Show Spectacular.” According to Sky Elements, this year’s production is 75% longer than previous editions and transforms the sky above the Bauernhof Courtyard with animated storytelling after an evening of tram rides, live music and family entertainment.
Colorado’s Aspen will celebrate with its Symphony of Freedom Drone Show, featuring synchronized drones creating patriotic stories and mountain-themed imagery above the city. Sky Elements describes the production as a fire-safe aerial spectacle choreographed to music.
Just south in Lebanon, Indiana, the Boone County Fourth of July Celebration will feature sculpted drone formations, patriotic colors and customizable aerial animations celebrating both the holiday and the local community.
Another New Mexico community, Los Alamos, is closing out its Fourth of July Spectacular with a synchronized drone show finale featuring patriotic aerial animations over Ashley Pond Park.
Florida also makes the list, with Surfside hosting a holiday drone performance as part of its Independence Day festivities.
Across the West Coast, several California communities are also hosting drone displays. In Burbank, Sky Elements will launch its drones from the historic Starlight Bowl for a show designed to be viewed from McCambridge Park and surrounding areas with clear views of the sky.
Goleta will feature a music-synchronized drone show with custom patriotic animations and community-themed artwork. Sky Elements describes it as a cleaner, quieter way to celebrate while weaving local icons and storytelling into the performance.
Further south, Rancho Palos Verdes is getting its own customized aerial production with colorful animations and 3D formations designed to tell the story of the city and Independence Day in sync with music.
In the Southwest, Goodyear, Arizona, is preparing for a massive music-synchronized drone show over Goodyear Ballpark, where Sky Elements promises vibrant patriotic imagery created by its synchronized fleet.
Nearby, Gilbert, Arizona, will combine drones and fireworks during its July 4 celebration at Gilbert Regional Park. Sky Elements says its precision-choreographed aerial performance will build anticipation before culminating in a fireworks finale, giving visitors two different spectacles in one evening.
In Upper Arlington, Ohio, visitors to Party in the Park at Northam Park can stick around for a 9:40 p.m. drone light show featuring patriotic storytelling and custom aerial formations as the evening’s finale.
The celebrations continue
The holiday weekend doesn’t end on July 4.
On July 5, Agoura Hills, California, hosts another Sky Elements production, extending the Independence Day celebrations for one more evening.
Then on July 6, the company heads to Seattle, Washington, for SEA 26, closing out one of its busiest weeks of the year.

A growing holiday tradition
The growing calendar reflects how quickly drone shows have become part of America’s Independence Day celebrations. Unlike fireworks, drones can be programmed to create detailed animations, logos, words, and local landmarks, allowing every performance to be customized for the community hosting it.
They’re also finding favor in some parts of the country because they produce far less noise than traditional fireworks and don’t generate smoke or falling debris. As communities continue exploring new ways to celebrate, many organizers have found that drones can either complement existing fireworks displays or offer a completely different kind of nighttime spectacle.
Whether you’re planning to celebrate on July 3, July 4, or even later in the holiday weekend, chances are there’s a drone show happening somewhere nearby. And if this year’s packed schedule is any indication, looking up at hundreds of synchronized drones creating patriotic art in the night sky is becoming just as much a part of the Independence Day experience as fireworks themselves.
