DJI Mavic 4 Pro could take on a design closer to the Mini 4 Pro

As we’re patiently waiting for DJI to announce its latest flagship camera drone, we have no choice but to speculate what it will be through leaked specs, images, and renders. If they’re all true, the design of the Mavic 4 Pro will be quite different from its previous design. One aspect of the design’s change will likely come from its smaller siblings.

When the Mini 3 Pro was released, it brought a radical change to the Mini lineup and differentiated itself from every other sub-249 gram drone on the market. From the obstacle avoidance to the rotating camera for vertical video, it changed the perception of what the Mini could do.

The most noticeable change was its body design and the stance it took while in the air. I remember when, on a press briefing call, they discussed the change, saying it looked like a frog ready to jump. The stance is rather aggressive-looking, with the rear of the drone dipping lower than the front, making it seem like it’s sitting back a bit.

The new design’s benefit made for a better aerodynamic profile, which improved the drone’s battery life. This made the Mini 3 Pro one of the first of DJI’s drones to push the high 40-minute mark in battery life. The design was copied for the new Mini 4 Pro that saw improvements to the obstacle avoidance system.

With the Mavic 3 coming out before the Mini 3 Pro, its design doesn’t take this profile. Even if it did, it’s not like it needs the boost in battery life with its large battery. The Mavic 3 Pro, its replacement, kept the same overall design, only becoming ever so slightly bigger to accommodate the larger payload.

The Air 3 took on the Mavic’s design too, rather than adopting the Mini 3 Pro’s design.

That might change with the upcoming Mavic 4 Pro as a new render shows the drone directly from the rear. While the Mavic 3 does have a more level body that is slightly above the propellers, the Mavic 4 Pro will seemingly have that Mini 3 Pro-like stance, bringing the rear of the body lower than the front.

This will, of course, improve the drone’s battery life just like it does for the Mini 3 and Mini 4 Pro. However, note that the rear rotors are above the drone’s body; this will also likely aid in cooling. With a vent seen towards the rear of the drone on most designs, including the Mavic 4’s, the rotors will help blow cool air in to keep its components cool during flight.

Given some leaked specs of the Mavic 4 showing it might do 6K footage on its main camera, it’s going to need whatever cooling it can get.
