‘People playing with stuff’ is DJI’s drone development secret sauce

DJI drones Welsh

Ever been curious about the internal workings of drone leader DJI, and how it comes up with its wide array of frequently enhanced products? The company’s head of global policy, Adam Welsh, shared a few details with DroneDJ – including a response to online suspicions that the now routine deluge of leaks on craft under development must be coming straight from CEO Frank Wang himself. (Spoiler alert: They’re not.)

(Not) coming to stores near you: DJI’s new Matrice 3D nested drone

DJI Matrice 3D drone

DJI has been getting scooped pretty routinely on its own product releases by leakers of late, but chagrin over all that stolen thunder wasn’t why the company decided to soft-peddle the rollout of its much-previewed Matrice 3D drone and accompanying Dock 2. That restraint instead reflected a very limited market demand for such gear – for now, anyway.

More Matrice 3D drone pix raise the question: Is DJI leaking intentionally?

DJI Matrice 3D drone

As DroneDJ readers (and anyone else paying even passing attention) have realized by now, DJI has become a veritable (and suspiciously unrepaired) sieve of nominally confidential product information – the most recent example being the liberal flow of photos of the rumored Matrice 3D enterprise drone in advanced stages of development. How did such a tight-lipped company become a leak machine?

DJI Mini 4 Pro

Despite the accumulating details over recent months indicating a looming Mini 4 Pro release, relentless DJI leaker Igor Bogdanov has managed to dig up additional unseen images of the rumor-in-name-only craft, before returning his attention to a docked enterprise drone he first revealed last month – this time via retweeted photos from fellow sleuth @NGDrones.

DJI teases Aug. 2 unveiling of much-leaked Osmo 4 action camera

Offering proof there is at least still one aspect to its nominally secret product development process over which it still maintains full control, DJI has revealed the date of its newest release event – this one, the August 2 unveiling of what’s expected to be the Osmo 4 action camera, whose coming has been foretold over and over again.
