This week, DJI announced its entrance into the 360 camera market with its Osmo 360. An impressively stacked camera that can even make Insta360 clutch its pearls in fear of competition. However, it has one massive flaw that could hinder its relevancy: availability.
Ahead of the launch, media were told once again that DJI’s latest product would not be available for order in the United States; however, no details were given as to why. In the case of DJI’s flagship drone, the Mavic 4 Pro, blame was specifically placed on tariffs and enhanced scrutiny at ports of entry.
However, while the Mavic 4 Pro is still not “officially” released, its page on DJI’s website is not even accessible in the US; some third-party retailers do have stock. For the Osmo 360, it’s a bit different. DJI has been promoting the camera in the States and even has a store listing on its website. However, all options are currently out of stock.
The same goes for third-party retailers; B&H and Adorama only have pre-order options. For Amazon, the only listing we could find comes from a sketchy Chinese retailer at a marked-up rate.
Should you trust the pre-order? B&H and Adorama are trusted retailers with legitimate return or cancellation policies, so if you really want one and want to get in line, you might as well. Sketchy online retailers you’ve never heard of before? Be smart, do your research always before purchasing.
In response to questions about the future availability of the Osmo 360 in the United States, a DJI spokesperson said, “There is no estimated timeline for when the Osmo 360 will be officially available in the U.S. market through DJI’s official e-commerce site (store.dji.com). We’re not able to comment on other retailers.”
For why DJI is not bringing what may be its most competitive product to the US? DJI officially does not give a specific reason, saying, “There are multiple reasons why the Osmo 360 will not be available through DJI officially in the U.S. We have had to adjust our market strategy as local conditions and the industry environment have evolved.”
However, the reason is likely due to the implementation of tariffs by the current administration on China, totaling well over 100%.
