As governments, utilities, and critical infrastructure operators increasingly demand tighter control over where their drone data lives, DJI has been steadily expanding a version of its enterprise software that never relies on the public cloud.
That platform is DJI FlightHub 2 On-Premises — a self-hosted edition of DJI’s fleet management software that lets organizations run their entire drone operations platform on their own servers or approved private cloud. Instead of sending flight logs, live video feeds, maps, 3D models, and inspection data to DJI-hosted infrastructure, everything stays inside the customer’s own network.
It’s designed for organizations with strict cybersecurity, compliance, or data sovereignty requirements, including government agencies, public safety departments, utilities, transportation authorities, and energy companies.
Now DJI has released FlightHub 2 On-Premises v1.7, a significant update that focuses on three of the biggest challenges facing enterprise drone operators: scaling livestreams across large fleets, simplifying deployments and upgrades, and giving developers far deeper integration options through expanded APIs.
Unlike flashy consumer drone launches, this update won’t attract hobbyists. But for organizations running dozens of automated drone missions every day through DJI Dock infrastructure, the improvements could noticeably reduce downtime while making large-scale deployments easier to maintain.
Livestream capacity gets a major boost
The headline feature is a significant improvement to livestream performance.
As companies deploy more DJI Docks across large facilities, it’s becoming increasingly common for multiple aircraft to be airborne simultaneously, each transmitting live video back to a central operations center. Previous versions could struggle with that workload.
Version 1.7 introduces multi-core livestream processing, allowing the streaming service to take advantage of multiple CPU cores. DJI says this can increase concurrent livestream capacity by up to three times, provided adequate server hardware is available.
The update also fixes several issues affecting livestream reliability, including:
- livestream failures
- relay/forwarding failures
- black screens during livestreams
- abnormal latency reporting
Together, these changes are aimed squarely at organizations operating large, multi-dock deployments where uninterrupted video feeds are essential for inspections, security patrols, emergency response, or industrial monitoring.
Faster upgrades with less downtime
Another major focus is reducing the amount of work required to deploy and maintain FlightHub 2.
Historically, upgrading enterprise software often meant lengthy maintenance windows and full software replacements. DJI is changing that with incremental upgrade packages, allowing customers moving from version 1.6 to version 1.7 to install only the components that have changed instead of reinstalling the entire platform.
According to DJI, the average incremental upgrade takes about 20 minutes, dramatically reducing system downtime. The company notes that incremental upgrades currently work only between adjacent software versions — for example, v1.6.x to v1.7.x. Customers upgrading across multiple versions will still need a full installation.
The company has also introduced several deployment improvements designed for IT administrators, including:
- automatic network segment conflict detection before installation
- faster configuration changes in the admin console
- improved recovery times after configuration updates
- more stable visual upgrade architecture
- standardized version numbering across the management console and administrator backend
- clearer access to installation packages through the Developer Console’s History section
- deployment documentation that has moved from downloadable files to searchable online documentation with PDF export
- removal of installation packages for version 1.5 and older for security and stability reasons, with legacy packages now available only through DJI support or authorized partners.
OpenAPI grows from 67 to more than 300 interfaces
For software developers and enterprise integrators, version 1.7 may be an even bigger deal.
DJI has expanded FlightHub 2 On-Premises from just 67 OpenAPI interfaces at launch to more than 300 endpoints, dramatically increasing what third-party applications can access.
The new APIs now provide systematic coverage for:
- device management
- flight missions
- flight records
- media management
- map data
- model data
DJI has also separated public cloud and on-premises API documentation while introducing a unified framework intended to make future API expansion much faster.
For customers, this means FlightHub 2 can be integrated more deeply into existing business systems, from GIS platforms and asset management software to dispatch systems, maintenance databases, and custom enterprise dashboards.
Building on recent enterprise features
Version 1.7 also builds on capabilities introduced in recent releases, including support for the O4 Ground Station.
The ground station can act as a signal enhancement device during missions, allowing operators to extend the communication range of individual flights by routing connections through strategically placed stations. It also enables viewing network camera feeds connected via ONVIF or GB/T 28181 protocols and supports displaying aircraft detected by connected RID and ADS-B receivers directly inside FlightHub 2 for improved situational awareness.
Not identical to the cloud version
Although DJI continues working toward feature parity, the company notes that the On-Premises platform still differs from the public cloud version.
Certain cloud-based services — including live weather information, SMS notifications, DJI Care Enterprise integration, and some AI-powered cloud services — remain exclusive to the hosted version. Conversely, the On-Premises edition offers advantages important to enterprise customers, including deeper customization, local data ownership, support for custom integrations, MQTT Bridge, offline map support, and broader API access.
For organizations inspecting power lines, monitoring industrial sites, managing public safety operations, or deploying networks of DJI Docks, the update promises better scalability, shorter maintenance windows, and significantly greater flexibility for integrating drone operations into existing enterprise workflows.
