Airbus’ Zephyr high altitude drone can fly for 14 days without landing

Airbus, a French company, has its eyes set on the unmanned aerial vehicle market with their Zephyr high altitude drone. You may be familiar with Airbus as a company who develops passenger aircraft, like the A380 that was recently captured by a drone while taking off, commercial jets, and even helicopters. Their goal is entirely different with this project as the Zephyr S and Zephyr T offer a wide range of possibilities.

Facebook scraps Aquila drone project after 4 years

Facebook grounds it’s autonomous drone project after an uneventful four years. Built and designed by Facebook themselves, this impressively large drone featured a wingspan of 141 feet, 28 feet wider than a Boeing 747. Aquila was fully autonomous, powered by an array of solar panels that lined most of the topside of the aircraft. Onboard batteries stored the energy in hopes of flights that would last up to 90 days.

New DJI Phantom 4 RTK model spotted

Today in a post on the Facebook Inspire 1 & 2 owners group this image surfaced. Apparently, it shows a new drone, called the DJI Phantom 4 RTK from Chinese drone manufacturer, DJI. RTK stands for Real-Time Kinematic and is a very precise and accurate satellite navigation device, which offers its value in highly accurate mapping situations. Normal drones offer precision measurements with up to 5-meter (16.4 feet) accuracy. With RTK the measurements are accurate up to 5 cm (2 inches).
