DJI leaker shares his concept for the Inspire 4

Notorious DJI leaker OsitaLV shared with us this week a new concept sketch of what he thinks the Inspire 4 will be. The craziest of camera drones DJI creates, the Inspire line doesn’t hold back on features, and the price tag shows it.

With the Inspire 3 only being a few years old at this point and still a beast, a fourth generation upgrade might not be the most high-priority drone release on DJI’s roadmap. DJI did wait nearly seven years between the Inspire 2 and Inspire 3.

However, who doesn’t love a good little bit of speculation time on our dream drone if we had an endless budget?

OsitaLV used to regularly give us concept sketches of upcoming DJI drone releases; however, it’s been a minute since the last one we’ve seen from him. This makes this one just a bit more special to see, as many of what he shares do come true.

Rotation, Rotation, Rotation. Continuing on with the trend of rotating cameras, OsitaLV believes the Inspire 4 will join the ranks of the Mini 4 and Mavic 4 Pro to feature a rotating camera gimbal. What will likely be called the X10 if DJI, the Inspire 4’s camera gimbal does a similar couple of 360-degree rolls like the Mavic 4 Pro. How useful will this be outside of true vertical video at 8K resolution? We’ll just have to wait and see how well-used the feature is on the Mavic.

The camera will stay the same in resolution, 8K, which isn’t a shock as there still isn’t much need for video files of any higher resolution.

Flip It. The second exciting feature, and really the coolest in my opinion, is the ability to flip the camera to the top of the Inspire 4’s body. I think this has to be one of the craziest ideas I’ve seen come from OsitaLV in recent years.

This might not seem as crazy as it sounds; many custom drone solutions for cinema cameras feature the camera gimbal on top. This allows for a similar forward-facing shot but with the added ability to point the camera directly above it and behind it.

However, it doesn’t allow downward views, so a gimbal attachment point that could be rotated from being below or above the drone’s body would give you the best of both worlds.

I think this feature would be the craziest to see truly added to the drone, but when price is no object for Hollywood, might as well give them everything.

Upgrade… everything. As expected, OsitaLV believes the Inspire 4 will see upgrades across the board compared to its predecessor. An easy assumption, given it is a new version of the drone… you should always see a few upgrades.

From a 2TB USB4 memory stick, more wirelessly connected devices supported, and the addition of LiDAR for more precise obstacle avoidance in low light, if these come true, the Inspire 4 would unshakably hold on to the title of King of the Camera Drones.

Some features I would expect to return to the Inspire 4 would be RTK support, all the software tools like routes and dolly mode, and dual, hot-swappable batteries.

When Inspire 4? A timeline on a product like this is pretty hard to guess at because DJI has been reducing the long waits between its generation upgrades slowly over time. However, the Inspire line falls under DJI’s “Professional” category rather than consumer team, so they could still be sticking to a “it’s done when it’s done” timeline.

I wouldn’t expect the Inspire 4 in 2025, or probably 2026. Unless DJI thinks the features are needed sooner rather than later, and that’s if they’re true, we may be waiting for more details for a while.
