The PowerDolphin underwater drone does it all! The underwater unmanned vehicle was introduced at CES 2018 this week. PowerVision, the company behind the underwater drone, calls the PowerDolphin, a lifestyle robot that will precision drop bait for you and catch fish for you, map the ocean floor, deliver lifesaving equipment to people in need.

The PowerDolphin drone for the complete aquatic lifestyle
The anti-waterweed-winding design of the PowerDolphin features a streamlined body with automatic anti-overturn capabilities, which is probably nice to have in rougher conditions. The drone can ‘swim’ for about two hours, above as well as underwater and has three different speed levels. This marine vehicle features a forwards facing dual-joint rotating camera, capable of taking 12mp photos or shooting 4K video at 30fps and saving it on a microSD card.
The underwater drone also comes with the PowerSeeker fishfinder system to help you locate fish more efficiently. It also comes with a controller that can be paired with a smartphone. The controller has a return home button to bring the drone safely back to you.
“The PowerDolphin is a new lifestyle robot that is not only suitable for water sports, photography, fishing, and other enthusiasts or rescue and scientific researchers, but also provides a new perspective of life to adventurous people,” explained Wally Zheng, the founder, and CEO of manufacture PowerVision, in a statement.
The PowerDolphin will be available for purchase in April with a retail price of $749.
To be honest we are not quite sure what to make of this underwater vehicle. On one hand, we applaud the innovation and creativity. On the other hand, we are concerned that a drone trying to do so many things, will fail at doing any single one of them really well.
Lastly, we think the PowerDolphin looks a bit more like a turtle with its dual-joint and rotating camera, but a PowerTurtle probably wouldn’t sell as well as a PowerDolphin.
What do you think of this underwater robot? Make it or break it?
