During the early morning hours on Saturday, a 16-year-old girl called the 999 Emergency Services to report that she had been raped and was somewhere in the Boston Lincolnshire (UK) area with her attacker. Even though the girl was not able to report her exact location she was quickly found after she had described a leveled factory site and the local authorities deployed a police drone with a thermal imaging camera.
Police drone guides officers to girl
The police drone was outfitted with a thermal imaging camera and was able to pick up two heat signatures in the described area. The Guardian reports that with the guidance from the drone, police officers were able to get to her location within minutes.
The newspaper reported that:
“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody, officers said. They added that the girl was being supported by specially trained officers.”

This incident follows the discovery of a man suffering from dementia earlier last week when Lincolnshire law enforcement used a police drone as well. Using the unmanned device with a thermal imaging camera, officers were able to locate the man in the dark.
