The world’s leading drone company is set to launch its first dedicated DJI-Hasselblad Concept Store outside of Asia later this month, with tomorrow’s opening of a two-story retail showcase in the UK.
Drone manufacturer DJI is working on a mirrorless camera to compete with current offerings from Sony, Nikon, and Cannon. DJI has submitted a patent application on the same day FCC filings were made public for DJI’s Digital FPV system. The new DJI mirrorless camera shows a resemblance to the X1D-50c from Hasselblad.
Over the last year or so, DJI has expanded its product offering well beyond their core product, drones. In short succession, they have launched the DJI Osmo Pocket, DJI Osmo Action, DJI Robomaster S1, the DJI FPV system and they are about to launch the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 and now possibly a new mirrorless camera. We still don’t have word on whether this new DJI camera will be a medium format one like the Hasselblad.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art partnered with Hasselblad and DJI for a special inspection project this fall. The condition of the limestone blocks that make up the 12th-century Fuentidueña Apse at The Met Cloisters had to be inspected. The Met Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is located at the very Northern tip of Manhattan just off the Hudson River.
Back in 2015 DJI acquired a minority stake in Hasselblad, the famous Swedish medium-format camera company. Early in 2017, DJI increased their share to a majority interest, although how much the drone manufacturer exactly owns has never been made public. DJI’s recent efforts to increase the global online sales of their products received a boost due to a new partnership with Worldpay, so it should not come as a surprise that Hasselblad now opens their virtual doors with a new online store. To celebrate the Grand Opening, you can now receive a 10% discount on all the Hasselblad cameras and lenses. Keep in mind the discount is for a limited time only, starting today until the 18th of February.
Note: The online store is only available to German customers for the moment. Hopefully, that will change soon.
Update: We have contacted Hasselblad and the U.S. online store will open in March and will have a Grand Opening Promotion as well. Details will follow.
