Pilot stays calm as bird smashes through the windshield of a small airplane

The pilot of a small single-propeller airplane stays calm after a bird crashes through its windshield, sending large pieces of broken plexiglass flying through the cockpit. If you watch the slow-motion (video below) carefully you can actually see the pilot’s glasses flying through the air. The pilot remains very calm even though he seems injured and continues to land the aircraft safely.

You cannot help but wonder what would have happened if a drone had hit the airplane instead.

DJI drone spotted from airplane while landing in LA

During the final descent to Los Angeles International Airport, photographer Simon Pollock from Melbourne spotted a DJI drone flying very close to his airplane. On Facebook he wrote:

Drones, All fun and games until you’re looking out your window on approach to LAX and you spot a Phantom just out your window (yeah a few hundred feet, but imagine if it.. well..) some people are utterly stupid.

One of the most popular YouTubers, Casey Neistat, recently flew his drone inside an Emirates airplane on his way to Dubai. It all took place during a flight from Brussels to Dubai. Neistat was invited to try out the new Emirates First Class Suite onboard a new Boeing 777.

Crashed drone mistaken for small airplane by first aid responders in Costa Rica

Municipal Police of Escazú, Costa Rica and first aid responders rushed to the crash site of what was thought to be a small glider airplane. On closer inspection, the aerial vehicle turned out to be a 10-foot long drone hanging in the crown of a tree.

Nacion reported that the call was received by the 9-1-1 emergency system, which triggered the emergency protocol for the first aid response units. Ambulances and police units were directed to the crash site. The first crew to arrive spotted the plane hanging down from a tree and at a distance it represented an airplane. It wasn’t until the units got closer that they realized that in fact, it was a 10-foot long unmanned aerial vehicle.

DJI releases official statement on report of plane striking drone in Quebec

DJI just released an official statement on the report of a plane striking a drone in Quebec that we wrote about earlier today. Currently, it is not known (or at least not officially) what kind of drone and what brand exactly has collided with the commercial airliner. However with DJI being the largest drone manufacturer, chances are, it may have been one of their products. DJI states that they are ready to assist the Canadian aviation authorities. The collision took place at about 1500 feet of elevation and DJI’s drones are programmed by default to not exceed 4oo feet. In their release, DJI stresses that many people are using drones safely and responsibly and that DJI is pioneering new technologies such as geo-fencing and AeroScope to allow for safer sharing of the airspace.
