The DJI GO 4 app has finally received DJI’s local data mode, which keeps your drone data on your phone rather than sending it to servers. The app received an update earlier this week which activates the feature, which has been present in the DJI Fly and Pilot app for some time now.

DJI’s GO 4 app is great for a majority of its users. But for those wanting something more powerful in terms of mapping capabilities or mission planning, some alternatives have risen to the top over the years, including Litchi, Airmap, Pix4D, and UgCS for DJI.
In a smart move, DJI decided to point out the additional costs and restrictions that come with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NPRM for Remote ID for Drones directly in the DJI Go 4 app. One of the challenges has always been to reach out to as many drone pilots as possible to keep them informed of changing rules and regulations. With DJI’s market share of more than 70%, displaying a pop-up message in the DJI Go 4 app is a very effective method to reach these pilots.
Finally, DJI just added a new version of waypoints for the Mavic 2 drones in a DJI Go 4 app update. So far the update is only available for iOS, but I would expect an update for Android users to follow soon. The vastly improved waypoints feature is the main improvement in this update but not the only one. Other improvements are optimizations of the software and the stability of the editor. DJI has started to introduce new features for their ‘electronic license plate’ system for drones, called Aeroscope, in their latest firmware updates. The new features allow drone pilots to voluntarily identify their flight operations to law enforcement agencies.
Apparently, there is a date bug in iOS 11.1 that has affected a number of apps, including DJI GO and DJI GO 4. This may lead to the apps crashing. DJI just issued an official announcement addressing this issue.
