The all-new DJI Mavic Air - Adventure Unfolds

Best Prices, Specs and Latest News

On January 23rd, 2018, DJI introduced their all-new DJI Mavic Air during an event in New York City. The Mavic Air currently is DJI’s smallest, most portable folding drone with 4K video and a range of quick shot options. It also features the most advanced obstacle-avoidance (front, down and backward) and Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS) that allows the drone to fly over and around obstacles.

DJI introduced the Mavic Air with the slogan: “Adventure Unfolds“, a very appropriate one as we believe that the Mavic Air currently is the best, foldable drone any adventure traveler can buy to take along on a trip. It folds so small that it easily fits in a pocket or backpack.

Other drones to consider are the less expensive DJI Spark ($399), which only shoot 1080p and does not have folding legs. On the other side of the Mavic Air is the Mavic Pro or Mavic Pro Platinum Edition. The Mavic Pro is priced at $999 but can often be found for less than that. The Mavic Pro is the original folding drone from DJI. It is larger than the Mavic Air but has a wider aperture lens and flies much further than the Mavic Air. 4.3 miles vs. 2.4 miles advertised by DJI.

A short recap of the specs:

  • Capture 4K Video and 12MP Photos
  • 3-Axis Gimbal-Stabilized Camera
  • GPS- & Vision Position-Based Navigation
  • 8GB of Internal Storage/up to 256GB via microSD
  • FlightAutonomy with Obstacle Detection
  • Top Speed of 43 mph in Sport Mode
  • ActiveTrack Subject Tracking Modes
  • Up to 21 Minutes of Flight Time
  • Foldable, Portable Body

Where to buy DJI’s smallest folding drone with 4K video

Many people were expecting Chinese drone manufacturer, DJI to showcase new drones at the CES 2018 event in Las Vegas this week. But they did not. Instead of new drones, DJI showed a redesigned Osmo Mobile 2 and an all-new Ronin-S stabilizer. Both seem to be great products, but we did feel some disappointment that no new drones were announced. Luckily, it now seems that this may change soon as we just received an invite to a DJI event in New York City on January 23rd to announce new gear.
