All new enterprise-level drones that DJI manufactures come with the promise of supporting the open developer ecosystem, which means creating third-party flight automation apps and solutions for these products is easy. But what about the company’s latest consumer drones such as the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro, Mavic 3, or the Avata FPV aircraft? Is DJI planning to release a Mobile SDK (MSDK) for them?

DJI has announced a major revamp to its developer ecosystem support policies. To make the development of third-party drone solutions on DJI’s platforms easier than ever before, the technology giant is reducing the cost of its SDK software and hardware kits, making all member services free of charge for SDK developers, and ramping up technical support dramatically.

Not too long ago, we wrote that DJI was about to release their software development kit (SDK) for the DJI Smart Controller. Well, they did so earlier this week. The SDK allows third-party developers to build their applications fully integrated with the DJI Smart Controller. Expect Litchi to be one of the first apps available on the, now even more expensive DJI Smart Controller.

The world’s biggest drone company, DJI and tech giant, Microsoft have partnered up to create a new software development kit (SDK) that will allow developers to build “full-flight control and real-time data transfer capabilities” into Windows 10 computers. The partnership between both companies aims to create new drone services for a number of industries, including agriculture, construction, and public safety. Furthermore, the Chinese drone maker has adopted Microsoft’s Azure cloud service to deliver its own commercial drone services.
