DJI Action 2: Specs, features, best price on the rugged action camera

A follow-up to its Osmo Action camera, the Action 2 is a new DJI product that is versatile enough for vlogging and extreme sports alike. It comes with an interchangeable and adaptive magnetic design, featuring DJI’s unparalleled expertise in stabilization systems. Smaller and more powerful than its predecessor, DJI Action 2 captures video in crystal-clear 4K.

All-new modular design

DJI Action 2 weighs only 56 grams and flaunts a new compact and innovative modular design for ease of use and mobility. You can attach it to your helmet to film an FPV bike ride, mount it on your surfboard to capture a breaking wave, or clip it to your shirt to create an easy, hands-free city tour timelapse.

The Action 2 camera is dustproof, waterproof, and drop-proof. It comprises the camera unit and various modules – the front touchscreen module, power module, and various mounting peripherals – that can be interchanged.

The camera unit features a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen with an additional OLED screen on the front touchscreen module, which attaches to the bottom of the camera unit via magnetic locks. Protected with Gorilla Glass, the touchscreens use haptic feedback for more precise control, allowing you to navigate quickly through camera settings. Or you can just turn the camera on and instantly begin recording in one second by holding the power button down.

Imaging system and battery

DJI Action 2’s 1/1.7-inch sensor records up to 4K/120fps video. In the meantime, a super-wide 155-degree FOV ensures your entire surroundings are captured for immersive footage. There’s also a new Color Temperature Sensor in there that helps the camera to restore color tones in complex lighting conditions and underwater recordings.

For smooth footage, DJI Action 2 incorporates RockSteady 2.0, the company’s proprietary Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) technology. Complementing that is HorizonSteady technology that maintains a level frame throughout the shot, even during dynamic moments.

The camera unit has a battery with a run time of up to 70 minutes on its own, 160 minutes when connected with the front touchscreen module, and 180 minutes with the power module. 

It’s worth noting that the front touchscreen module also incorporates DJI Matrix Stereo technology, which was first seen in DJI Pocket 2. The single microphone from the camera unit combines with the three microphones from the module to record audio from every direction, creating immersive sound during playback.
