A drone has helped officials rescue a hiker stuck on South Africa’s Table Mountain earlier this week after not being able to proceed back down the mountain. The rescue team was unable to reach the man and called in a drone to help the search.

South Africa has just announced the launch of its own drone council to accelerate the country’s drone industry. The council has been created by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT).

A drone has captured a great white shark swimming within inches of surfers paddling through the water in South Africa. Luckily no one was injured by the shark who was just investigating the surfers, according to Sarah Waries from the City of Cape Town (CoCT) Shark Spotters program.

Government officials in South Africa are seriously looking to use drones to secure the border with neighboring countries such as Botswana, Mozambique, and others. The South African defense minister stressed the use of drones to ”win the war against porous borders’ and to improve national security and prevent non-citizens from entering illegally.
