DJI Phantom 5 spotted? Photo shows drone in its entirety.

Talking about being back in the game! OsitaLV just tweeted a photo that may show the new DJI Phantom 5 drone. As was rumored before the unmanned aerial vehicle has an aluminum color. It is hard to say based on the photo whether this is plastic in an aluminum color or if it is the real thing. The photo does seem to show the interchangeable lens system we have seen before.

The Phantom 5 may not be available in white but instead come with an aluminum shell

The DJI Phantom 5 no longer white, instead comes in grey aluminum shell and black?

Instead, what we have heard is more news on the Phantom 5. Earlier this week there were photos of what seems to be the new interchangeable lens system for DJI’s upcoming quadcopter. Today, we see another beautiful sketch of the upcoming Phantom 5 from @OsitaLV, in which he draws an aluminum grey and black quadcopter. Interestingly, his drawing seems to match news we got from Europe.

DJI Phantom 5 with interchangeable lenses

Will the new DJI Phantom 5 have interchangeable lenses? Newly surfaced photos could show prototype in the works

Rumors have been going around for a while now that the new DJI Phantom 5 could have interchangeable lenses. There would be four different lengths available, a 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm lens. The option to change lenses would effectively turn the Phantom 5 into a mini Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 camera and lenses at a much lower price point. Now, that is something to get excited about!

DJI confirms: these photos do not show a new Phantom 5 drone with an interchangeable lens system

DJI confirms: these photos do NOT show a new Phantom 5 drone with an interchangeable lens system

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen various photos pop-up of two grey/silver DJI Phantom drones with an interchangeable lens system. Many people, including us, had been hoping that this was indeed a prototype of a new DJI Phantom drone with interchangeable lenses. Potentially an amazing setup for any serious photographer, who appreciates the flexibility and quality of fixed focal length or prime lenses, but without breaking the bank. Sort of a mini Inspire 2 / Zenmuse X7 combo. However, without saying that such a drone may never be introduced, DJI did state in an email to DroneDJ that these photos do NOT show a new DJI Phantom 5 drone, but a one-off custom built drone for one of their enterprise customers. Bummer, I know…

FCC filing of the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 controller

DJI receives FCC certificate for what seems to be a Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 controller

Last Friday, DJI received FCC approval for what seems to be a newer or different version of the controller of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. Back in March, we reported on the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 as well as the controller (version number GL300L1801). The one for which DJI got FCC approval last Friday carries number FCC ID SS3-GL300K1801 and it is unclear at this point whether this is a newer version or a different version of the controller.

DJI announces End of Life for Mavic Pro Platinum Phantom 3 and 4 and Osmo

End of Life for Mavic Pro (Platinum), Phantom 3 & 4 and Osmo announced by DJI

DJI announces the End of Life for the Phantom 4 Pro/Pro+, Phantom 3 SE, Osmo, Osmo+, Osmo Mobile, Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro Platinum in a memo to retailers. The announcement comes right after the introduction of the Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro drones last week. Especially the inclusion of the Phantom 4 Pro/Pro+ is interesting as it may indicate that its successor, the Phantom 5 may not be far away.

What will become of DJI's Phantom series after the release of the Mavic 2 Pro?

What will become of DJI’s Phantom series after the release of the Mavic 2 Pro?

With the release of the new Mavic 2 Pro, DJI has single handedly jeopardized sales of the Phantom 4 series as they introduced a new folding drone that carries a 1-inch sensor. Professional photographers and videographers gravitated towards the Phantom 4 Pro as it featured a camera with a 1-inch sensor and was easy to travel with. Now that they have included a similar camera in a much smaller drone, what’s next for DJI’s Phantom series?

New photos of the upcoming DJI Phantom 5 drone copy

New photos surface of possible DJI Phantom 5 or 4 Pro V2.0 drone with interchangeable lens system

Just now new photos surfaced of the upcoming DJI Phantom 5. This time the photos come from two different Chinese sources. One of them is our old friend @OsitaLV, who seems to be done playing games and is getting back to business again (thank you), the other one is a new source and possibly one of DJI beta-testers. In the photos, we see the new aluminum-colored Phantom 5, possibly a prototype in action, two detailed shots of the interchangeable lens, camera and gimbal combination, the DJI Phantom 5 in a backpack (Fly More Combo?), a DJI Mavic Pro and the Phantom 5 controller. We have seen the same equipment in a previous tweet as well.

DJI Phantom photos shows interchangeable lens system with 50mm f2.8 lens 0002f

DJI Phantom photos show interchangeable lens system with 50mm f/2.8 lens

Earlier this evening two new photos were posted on Twitter that show two silver-colored DJI Phantom drones with interchangeable lenses. They seem to be the same two Phantoms we have seen before. One photo shows a 50mm f/2.8 DJI lens detached from the lens mount. We are still unsure at this point what kind of DJI Phantom this might be but it is hard not to get excited about a new quadcopter with an interchangeable lens system that might not break the bank like the Inspire 2 and Zenmuse X7 lens combo would.

DJI-phantom-5-wishlist

DJI Phantom 5 – our wishlist for specifications and other improvements

We already published our wishlists for the DJI Mavic Pro and the DJI Spark. Here is our wishlist with desired specifications for the Phantom 5. This list is a little different. With both the Spark and the Mavic Pro portability is key. Those drones need to be small, light and capable. With DJI Phantom quality it the main concern. Quality in the photos and the video footage. Let’s get started.
