Today, we received an email from DJI with the ‘official invite’ to their ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event that is now scheduled for August 23rd at 10 am EST in New York. Readers of DroneDJ already knew this as the event was already announced about a week ago.
DJI just announced a new date for their postponed ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event that was originally scheduled for July 18th. The new date is now August 23rd and the event will take place in the NY Metro Area at 10 am EST. Details of the event were shared in an email with DroneDJ. This time around there will not be a special press/media event taking place before the main event. Of course, the new Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom are widely expected to be introduced on that day by the world’s leading drone maker.
The “See the Bigger Picture” event from DJI has been postponed but more and more photos are making their way to the public domain. Today, we received a tweet from one of our readers in Germany, who spotted a photo of the new DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Edition on the German DJI website. The photo seems to be erroneously uploaded to the site as a thumbnail of a DJI Mavic Air video. The new photo provides us with a more detailed view of the entire drone as well as the bottom side of the highly anticipated foldable drone from the Chinese drone maker.
Breaking News: Just now, we were notified by one of our readers that the new DJI Mavic 2 is already listed in the latest Argos catalog with photo and details. The Chinese drone maker will be launching two version of the popular foldable drone: the DJI Mavic 2 Pro with a 1-inch sensor and the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom with a 24-48mm zoom lens and ‘Dolly Zoom’ effect similar to the Parrot Anafi. The new DJI Mavic 2 was originally planned to be launched during a special event “See the Bigger Picture” in NYC on July 18th, but that was postponed for reasons that are still unclear to us. The fact that DJI’s latest foldable drone now appears in the catalog of an English retailer must indicate that the official launch cannot be far off.
On July 5th, DJI announced that they would postpone their highly anticipated “See the Bigger Picture” event which was originally scheduled to take place tomorrow. The message came as a big surprise to all of us as it was only two weeks before what was believed to be the global product launch of the DJI Mavic 2. Since the postponement, rumors have been circulating about the possible reasons behind DJI’s decision. Today we learn that a serious design failure of the Mavic 2’s gimbal may be the real reason for postponing the event.
Only minutes ago new photos surfaced online, showing the new DJI Mavic 2 ‘Enterprise’ edition. In a previously leaked photo, we already got the impression that the new Mavic 2 would allow for interchangeable gimbal/camera options, but the Enterprise edition seems to take that flexibility to a whole new level. It makes sense for DJI to use the compact foldable Mavic platform and allow for a certain level of adjustability. The new photos also show parts of the drone we have not yet seen before.
Even though, DJI just postponed their July 18th event “See the Bigger Picture”, some people have already signed NDA’s and have had hands-on experience with DJI’s new drone, that is widely expected to be the successor of the DJI Mavic Pro. Unfortunately, so far any concrete information on the new unmanned aerial system has been hard to come by, but just a few hours ago our friendly leaker posted some photos on Twitter that may show on optical zoom lens as one of the main features of the new drone.
Tomorrow morning, DJI will hold an event in San Francisco to announce that ‘the world of work is changing’. Many people have been speculating what this announcement may be about. Some have suggested new workflow software, the DJI Master Wheels, or even a new sensor size for the DJI Mavic Pro II based on the measurements between both circles in the announcement.
Over the last few days, some people with a sharp eye had spotted a controller in some of the visuals from DJI that looked very different. The company had already mentioned that a new remote controller for the Mavic 2 is on the way and that it will have an integrated screen. Today, it seems that we have found the first photo that actually shows the controller with the display visible. One of the directors who worked on the footage from Jimmy Chin’s trip to Greenland posted this photo on Facebook and later on deleted it after realizing his mistake. Luckily it was online long enough for one of our readers to capture it.
Rick from Drone Valley interviewed two key people from DJI; Adam Lisberg, Corporate Communications Director North America and Michael Oldenburg, Products Communications Lead, who also gave the main product presentation during the ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event that brought us the Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro drones. The interviews are well worth watching for anybody with a serious interest in drones, as Rick tries to get some ‘extra’ information about possible new products and discusses the legal challenges drones pilots and DJI deal with when it comes to flying drones in the U.S.
Today, we get our first good look at what seems to be the underbelly of the soon to be released DJI Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom drone. The photo that surfaced on Twitter shows the bottom plate with various openings for screws, ultrasonic sensors, downward dual-vision sensors, a downward infrared sensing system to allow for better positioning when flying (and landing) in general and especially indoors. The new foldable DJI drone is expected to perform significantly better in terms of obstacle avoidance than both its predecessor the Mavic Pro and the latest DJI drone the Mavic Air.
DJI just launched a Quiz this morning. By answering a few simple questions you can potentially win a DJI Select Membership and $20 worth of DJI Credit that you can spend in their online store, but simply participating in the quiz will earn you one Priority Shipping Coupon to allow early access to DJI’s new products such as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom models that will very likely be introduced this Thursday, August 23rd at 10am EDT in New York. So, if you are planning on ordering the new drone, it would make sense to take the quiz.

On July 18th, DJI will introduce a new product that is widely expected (see poll here) to be the successor of the current Mavic Pro, the Mavic Pro II. As we get closer to the release date, the rumors are becoming more frequent and more detailed as well. We saw the same thing happen in the weeks before the Mavic Air was released back in January. Today, we have seen these latest rumors on Twitter that we believe are worth sharing with you. One of them being that the new Mavic Pro II (2) is likely to have all-around obstacle avoidance. Another one, speculating that there might be two versions.
There is a ton of new features, both hardware and software, that DJI has baked into the new Mavic 2 and some are getting a lot more attention than others. New quickshots like hyperlapse and flight features like Activetrack 2.0 have been covered a countless number of times by pilots on YouTube, but there is plenty more to discuss. With that being said, here are 10 underrated features that make the Mavic 2 one of the greatest drones you can buy right now.

Chinese drone-maker DJI just sent out an invitation to the press to come and “See The Bigger Picture” on July 18th in New York. The invitation was sent by email and contained a top-down aerial photo that seems to show a mountainous area with trees, a river and possibly a lake in the center. Toward the outer edges of the circular image you see clouds and then it fades into black. There is no indication if this photo is from an actual location and/or how much of it may be photoshopped. The image also has a resemblance of an eye (iris and pupil), which nicely ties back into their slogan: “See The Bigger Picture”, which is superimposed over the photo. Like with previous announcements from DJI, it is hard to get much information out it, but I think it is safe to say that DJI will almost certainly be announcing a new consumer drone this summer with an emphasis on image quality. Possibly the new Mavic Pro 2 drone.
