Skydio tweaks X2D drone to operate on multiple frequencies

US drone maker Skydio says its X2 drone solution for aerial intelligence, reconnaissance, situational awareness, emergency services, and search and rescue operations is now available with multiband technology and capabilities. The new Skydio X2D Multiband offers wireless range and frequencies up to 10 km, and delivers an average flight time of 35 minutes.

Skydio drones, Qii.AI to inspect ships for Royal Canadian Navy

Drone manufacturer Skydio says its technology partner Qii.AI has won a contract to conduct automated ship inspections and detect corrosion for the Royal Canadian Navy. While the Qii.AI platform will provide AI-based data analytics, the visual data gathering part of the Navy’s ship inspection program will be carried out using Skydio drones.

Illinois utility expands drone inspection program with Skydio Dock

Electric utility ComEd says it is expanding its drone program to allow pilots to operate inspection drones remotely, without being present on site. The utility has secured all the necessary waivers required from the FAA to conduct operations in which the drone flies beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) of the operator. And it is currently training pilots to automate drone flights using the Skydio Dock docking and recharging station.

NYPA, Skydio receive FAA waiver for BVLOS drone inspections

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has taken another step in its increasing use of drones as tools in inspecting and managing its vast infrastructure by obtaining a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) waver for beyond visual line of sight flights (BVLOS) at its Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project, in partnership with Skydio.
