The Israeli military confirmed that one of their drones carrying four missiles crashed in southern Lebanon as a result of a technical malfunction. The Israel Defense Forces then sent in another drone to destroy it.

A few years ago, the California-based startup company, Zipline started a nationwide drone blood delivery system in Rwanda. Since then they have flown some 187,500 miles, delivering over 7,000 units of blood in more than 4,000 flights. The company is now introducing a new fixed wing drone, which they claim is the world’s fastest delivery drone with a top speed of almost 80 mph. Zipline has also re-designed their distribution centers and logistical operations to bring the time it takes to get a drone ready from 10 minutes to only one.
Three drones, called Seagliders, have been positioned underneath West Antarctica’s Dotson Ice Shelf to monitor the ebb and flow of ice autonomously during the Antarctic winter. The drones are part of a larger system designed by a team of scientists from the University of Washington and Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory to study how the Antarctic ice shelf is affected by climate change.

Today we learn that in the city of Ulan-Ude, 2,750 miles east of Moscow, a Russian postal drone made its maiden flight. Unfortunately, it did not end well as the unmanned aerial device crashed into the wall and fell back to earth in pieces. The Russian Post distanced itself from the event and said they were only a guest.

Last Friday the Israeli Defense Forces have turned to drones again to drop tear gas on protesters along the Gaza border. Police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld told the Times of Israel that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to drop tear gas on protesters was a recent innovation.
