Late last month, Autel Robotics’ Dragonfish drone hit the FCC, suggesting a near release. Now the controller for it has also passed through, meaning it is ready to go for a U.S. launch. The controller features a large touch-screen and comes with an all-in-one charge for it and the drone.

Drone manufacturer Autel announced on September 3 that its EVO II Dual drone package is “Made in the USA” — meaning it will have a competitive edge over drones manufactured elsewhere — and particularly drones of Chinese origin. The Department of Interior has banned the use of Chinese-made drones or drones containing Chinese parts over data security concerns — and the Trump administration’s Anti-China sentiment seems to be growing.

DJI has come out a winner in the war against Autel Robotics after the US International Trade Commission allowed DJI to continue selling drones even though they were found to infringe on some claims made. A big win for DJI who had a rough time with its drones.

We are almost halfway into the year which has already had some significant new drone releases. How do these new drones compare to other hot models on the market? Let’s take a look at the latest offerings from DJI, Autel Robotics, and Skydio along with some models that are still going strong to identify the best consumer drones you can buy.
Autel Robotics has won a patent dispute against drone giant DJI at the US International Trade Commission (ITC) last month after a judge found DJI violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 by selling drones that infringe US Patent No. 9, 260,184, which is owned by Autel Robotics.
We know that ZeroZero Robotics and DJI have had to close their offices as a result of the Coronavirus spreading in China. The assumption was that other drone manufacturers such as Autel Robotics would have been impacted as well and that as a result the Autel EVO II might be delayed.
Yesterday morning we got up early and instead of going back to CES, Paul from Drone U and I went to an area right outside the controlled airspace of Las Vegas to fly the all-new Autel EVO 2 with the 8K camera. Here are our first impressions. Keep in mind that we were flying this foldable quadcopter with a beta version of the app. Autel Robotics told us that they will keep updating both the software and firmware before launching this drone by the end of January for $1,445.

As expected, Autel Robotics launched their new Autel EVO 2 drone at CES this morning. It comes in three different variations that include up to 8K video and a thermal camera option. The ball is now in DJI’s court and we’ll see what they come out with when they’re ready to launch the DJI Mavic 3 Pro.
With Skydio shipping the first orders of their autonomous Skydio 2 drone and yesterday’s news from Autel Robotics and their new Autel Evo 2 drone, it seems that DJI is finally facing some serious competition. According to a person familiar with the situation, the sudden and serious competition from Autel has hit the DJI consumer division “like an earthquake”. It left many DJI employees shaking their heads as they had no idea that the Autel Evo 2 was coming.
Today through industry insiders and an FCC filing we learn about the new and surprising specs of the upcoming Autel Evo 2 drone. This new foldable drone from Autel Robotics is a real monster and it will feature user-changeable gimbal modules that offer you the choice of an 8K video camera, a 6K video camera with a 1-inch sensor, or a dual-sensor gimbal with an infrared camera and an 8K video camera. And if that wasn’t enough to get your attention, it will fly for 35 minutes!
Last week, Judge Leonard P. Stark of the District Court of Delaware dismissed Autel’s counterclaims in a Memorandum Opinion. The judge sided with DJI contending that Autel has not alleged facts that plausibly support any of its antitrust counterclaims. After reviewing the parties’ briefing the Court granted DJI’s motion and Autel’s antitrust counterclaims, both federal and state, have been dismissed.
We met up with Andrew St Pierre from Autel Robotics to take a look at the new LiveDeck and MultiCharger that they brought to CES 2019. Both devices would be very helpful, especially for first responders. However, both products are currently still in development and no official pricing or release date has been made public as of yet. The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has launched a probe into drones sold and imported by China-based SZ DJI Technology Co. The action is the result of rival drone maker Autel Robotics Co. that accused DJI of selling imports that infringe on its patents.
Six months after I first got my hands on the Autel Evo at CES 2018, I finally got the opportunity to fly it. It’s not because I was busy flying other drones… but it’s because Autel took that long to bring their foldable drone and Mavic Pro competitor to the market. The official launch of the Evo was last Monday, June 25th and I am going to try and look past its rocky launch because the drone itself is really impressive. Here are some of my first impressions upon getting the drone out and spending some time flying it.

Due to high demand, it has already gone out of stock and third party dealers have been said to only receive five units from Autel themselves due to production issues.

After laying off its US sales and marketing staff this time last year, Autel is back at it with a new quadcopter that’s set to go on sale sometime in the next several months: the Evo.
