Drone Dominator, DJI is one of TIME Magazine’s 50 Genius Companies of 2018

Drone dominator, DJI is one of Time's 50 Genius Companies of 2018

TIME Magazine just released their list of ‘Genius Companies 2018‘ and DJI is one of the featured companies. TIME even goes as far as calling DJI the Drone Dominator. A title that is not entirely misplaced as DJI is estimated to have a 72% market share in the global market share in the consumer and professional drone market. Founder and CEO Frank Wang started the business with about 20 people in 2006. They have indeed come a long way since then!

DroneRise – Miami by hyperlapse shot with a Mavic 2 Pro

DroneRise - Miami by hyperlapse shot with a Mavic 2 Pro

Good morning, here’s a really nice video. It shows Miami mostly by hyperlapse. It is really well done. It shows what you can do with a Mavic 2 Pro and some serious post-processing and editing skills. Very cool!

Furthermore, we have yesterday’s headlines for you with news about a patent dispute between DJI and Autel. A Scottish gang who unknowingly filmed themselves preparing a crime. Well done guys! And an official reaction from the Alliance for Drone Innovation who are thrilled (unlike the AMA) about the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. Lastly, our friends from 9to5Toys have found a deal on the Mavic 2 Pro for you. So, check it out.

Alliance for Drone Innovation ‘thrilled’ with passage FAA Reauthorization Act

Alliance for Drone Innovation 'thrilled' with passage FAA Reauthorization Act

The Alliance for Drone Innovation (ADI) issued a statement to let the world know that they are thrilled with the final passage of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act. They thanked and congratulated the House and Senate for working ‘tirelessly together’ to pass legislation that provides ‘a long-term FAA authorization.’ The alliance consists of many well-known industry players such as Chinese drone-maker DJI, GoPro, FatShark, 3DR, Parrot, Kittyhawk, and others. The alliance was started earlier this year and interestingly enough, GoPro is part of the group even though they have exited the drone business after their Karma drone failed proved unsuccessful.

DroneRise – ‘My first drone’ video shot with a DJI Mavic Air

DroneRise - 'My first drone' video shot with a DJI Mavic Air

Good morning, do you remember when you flew your first drone? The first time you had your fingers at the controls and flew. I remember it very well. The amazement of being able to position the drone anywhere you wanted in a 3-dimensional space. All of a sudden you could take photos and shoot video like never before. A whole new world of perspectives and compositions opened up. When I came across this ‘My first drone’ video below, it reminded me of what an awesome experience it is to own your own drone and fly it for the first time. That is what this video is about. Be sure to check it out and give the maker a thumbs up.

Here are the headlines from yesterday starting with the Senate passing the H.R. 302, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. News of a helicopter rescue being delayed because of a drone. A Chinese tourist brings a drone into the Taj Mahal. What you need to know when flying your drone in the mountains. The Disney PaintCopter. Kittyhawk $3 million funding round. And, lastly a new photo and video of the silver Phantom 4 with the interchangeable lens system.

New photo and video of DJI’s one-off Phantom edition for enterprise customer

Today a new photo and video surfaced on Twitter of the silver Phantom drone, that DJI calls a one-off edition for an enterprise customer. The Chinese drone maker has repeatedly denied that these photos would show a prototype of the Phantom 5. But many people are doubtful as the interchangeable lens system seems too costly to have only been developed for one single customer.

Drone flies into woman's face during family reunion

Drone flies into woman’s face during family reunion

During a family reunion, a clumsy photographer flies a drone straight into a woman’s face. The short video starts with the drone getting into position as the large group is sitting down on the grass, ready to have their photo taken. First, the drone takes off and quickly flies backward underneath some power lines and across the street. Then, as the operator seemingly realizes his piloting error, the drone flies forward to achieve the right composition. Right when you expect the drone to stop, it doesn’t. It keeps flying forward at some considerable speed and straight towards the unsuspecting woman.

DJI raises price of Phantom 4 Pro/Adv Remote Controller (Includes Display) to $749

DJI raises price of Phantom 4 Pro/Adv Remote Controller (Includes Display) to $749

In a series of price hikes, DJI now also increased the price on the Phantom 4 Pro/Advanced Remote Controller (Includes Display) to $749. The raise applies to both the regular controller as well as the Obsidian black one. We have contacted various sources within our network and they all tell us the same. As a result of the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, DJI was forced to increase the prices on a number of their products. The first price hike we noticed was on the Mavic 2 Fly More Kit and a number of accessories. The second on impacted the Mavic 2 Pro.

DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise confirmed in FCC filing. Launch at Airworks?

DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise confirmed in FCC filing. Launch at Airworks?

This morning at around 3 am, we got an email from the FCC notifying us of the filing (FCC ID SS3-L1ZE1807) of the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Edition. Unfortunately, the filing does not contain a lot of test photos that might have given us some new information. The only photos that showed up are one from the drone and one from its label. DJI Airworks, an expo for commercial drone applications, is scheduled to take place at the end of October. It could well be that that event will include the launch or introduction of the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise.
