U.S. Department of Defense has no plans to use drones to fight Coronavirus

A few weeks ago we learned that drones are playing a crucial role in fighting the coronavirus outbreak. For instance, we recently saw the Spanish police using drones to urge people to stay home. But even earlier we saw drones being used in China to quickly spray large areas with disinfectants. Today we’ve learned that the U.S. Department of Defense has no plans to use drones to fight the coronavirus.

After AUVSI recently postponed the XPonential 2020 event because of the spreading Coronavirus, we now learn about another drone event that is being postponed. In a statement the Energy Drone + Robotics Coalition informs us that their EDR Summit that was supposed to take place at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott in Texas has now been postponed. Countries use drones and other tech to fight Coronavirus

Today the WSJ published an article in which they talk about how various technologies are being used by countries to fight the Coronavirus. Readers of DroneDJ will already know that drones have been used in a number of ways, varying from drones outfitted with loudspeakers to communicate to people to modified DJI Agras T16 aircraft to help spray disinfectants. This article briefly covers how drones are used to spot people who might have the Coronavirus and that a drone carrying 2.5 gallons of disinfectant can spray up to 105,000 square feet, which is about the size of a typical Walmart store.

Late last month we got our hands on PowerVision’s PowerEgg X, and we were excited to get out and test it, unfortunately, due to a technical issue, we weren’t able to. The Chinese government is using surveying, mapping, and delivery drones to enforce the world’s largest quarantine in order to try to contain the coronavirus. Industrial drones have been modified by government agencies and drone manufacturers to try to keep an estimated 50 million residents indoors across a dozen Chinese cities.

Drone delivers wine to couple on quarantined coronavirus cruise ship

Drone delivers wine coronavirus

An Australian couple stuck on a quarantined cruise ship with cases of coronavirus on board have managed to get wine delivered by drone. The couple’s wine club was more than happy to send wine to the cruise ship via drone, leaving the couple a little bit happier.

Update: We have received confirmation that the claim by the couple was false after they told an Australian radio station.
