While we are all waiting for the GoPro Hero 9 to be released later this year, GoPro has released its range of lifestyle gear to the public. Some of the items might look familiar, as GoPro athletes and reviewers have been given them in the past.
A US District Court has found that GoPro has infringed on two camera streaming patents from the once action camera company Contour. The patents allow the ability to record on the camera while simultaneously streaming the footage to another device.
The GoPro Hero 9 has appeared to leak in product images that show off the new front color display, removable lens, the price, and a relocated USB-C port. A promotional image was also leaked by GoPro themselves. The new leak suggests GoPro will introduce the front color display, putting it in line with DJI’s Osmo Action.
We have come across what is believed to be the front shell of the upcoming GoPro Hero 9 action camera. With a larger front display cut-out, the appearance hints at a look similar to the DJI Osmo Action.
Last month a new GoPro action camera appeared on the FCC’s testbench, one month later and there is still only one new listing on the FCC’s database. This could mean GoPro will be ditching the two-camera release model and creating an all-in-one GoPro and 360-degree camera.
A few days ago, what is believed to be the GoPro Hero 9 action camera made its way onto the FCC’s test bench. That encouraged us to do some digging, and we have found two new trademarks submitted by GoPro recently in relation to two new possible products.
A new FCC listing from GoPro has appeared online earlier this week with what looks to be its next camera, the new GoPro Hero 9. While we are only able to see the location of the FCC’s label within the camera software, looking at the menus reveals something new. Expand Expanding Close
The GoPro Karma is one of the most drama-ridden drones to come from a large tech company, with GoPro being forced to recall the drone due to an issue causing it to drop out of the sky. This later forced GoPro to leave the drone business altogether and let go of a large number of people.
During the launch of the GoPro Hero 8 and GoPro Max 360, GoPro decided to market the GoPro Max 360 as a normal camera with optional 360 modes. Is this a sign of the future for GoPro cameras or is it just another marketing technique used by GoPro. Either way, let’s take a look.
Skydio launched its latest drone, Skydio 2 earlier this week after months of sharing teasers. Skydio 2 is the perfect filming sidekick for any adventure or a commercial operation. GoPro’s Karma was a flawed attempt at creating a drone, what if GoPro and Skydio joined forces?
The launch of the GoPro Hero 8 Black brought along one of GoPro‘s best features to-date, HyperSmooth 2.0. HyperSmooth 2.0 improves on the original HyperSmooth found in the GoPro Hero 7 Black with improved sensor management and prediction algorithm. Let’s take a closer look at HyperSmooth 2.0. Is it better than HyperSmooth and DJI’s RockSteady?
The long-awaited GoPro Hero 8 and GoPro Max 360 have been launched this morning in three YouTube videos with the titles ‘Beyond Next Level’, ‘This Is Action’ and “Ignite Your Creativity’. We’ve known for some time now that a new GoPro Hero 8 and a possible GoPro Max 360 action camera will come to market before the end of the year. Today this was confirmed by GoPro in the form of a short video shared on its social media accounts.
Two new GoPro models have made their way onto the FCC’s website, likely to be the GoPro Hero 8 and GoPro’s next iteration of its 360 camera, the GoPro Max 360. From leaked images, we can see a focus on features with Hero 8 and a focus on simplicity with Max 360.
There is a lot of chatter online about the upcoming DJI event on May 15th. The lack of hype around the event almost certainly means it won’t be a new drone. The “Unleash Your Other Side” campaign features a beautiful bikini-clad woman suspended underwater and most sources believe that this new product will feature a waterproof camera. As the leaks pour in that seems to be confirmed as the Verge among others believe that the event will be highlighting the new DJI Osmo Action, a GoPro Hero style action camera. Expand Expanding Close
For the GoPro Awards, the action camera company invites people to submit the most amazing GoPro footage they can record. Well, this video of an FPV drone flying in between the parachute strings of a BASE jumper qualifies as some of the craziest FPV drone footage, we have seen. Check it out in the video below.
In another very good and detailed review from DC Rainmaker about the new GoPro Hero 7, he mentions that the action camera company actually went through the trouble of updating the firmware for the Karma drone and grip to be compatible with the camera’s new features… “For the six people still flying the GoPro Karma drone”, he said with a smirk. Of course there’s more to the new camera so jump right in!
A few days ago, GoPro released their new Hero 7 action camera. Many FPV drone racers use GoPro cameras to capture amazing footage. At the end of last week, news broke that GoPro would be eliminating 200 to 300 jobs from its Karma drone division. Now, the company is reportedly putting itself up for sale (updated below).
In a public statement announcing their preliminary fourth quarter 2017 results, GoPro also stated that it will exit the unmanned aerial vehicle or drone market after having laid off all its employees in their drone department last week and after selling the remaining Karma drone inventory.
Currently, you can pick up a Karma drone for $999 with a GoPro Hero6 camera, just keep in mind that you’re buying a product that has been discontinued and that will not receive any further updates, although GoPro states that it will service and support Karma owners.
It would not surprise us if GoPro were to discount the Karma even more in the future.
GoPro, the company that we know from the Karma drone and action cameras, is laying off between 200 to 300 people this week, mostly from its drone division. The company had sent its workers a letter earlier this week informing them of the layoffs. According to GoPro, the job cuts are part of a larger restructuring “to better align our resources with business requirements”.
Today, in a live broadcast, GoPro’s CEO Nick Goodman announced the new ‘Follow’ and ‘Watch’ features for their Karma drone. Apparently, GoPro is unlocking these options through new software as the drone already had the technical capabilities. In the ‘Follow’ mode the drone will follow you (obviously), but only if you have the controller with you. As you can imagine this may be a problem for certain activities where a lot of body movement is required, like skateboarding or mountain biking for instance. In other situations, like when you are hiking, it might not be a big deal at all.
