More and more details are coming out on the DJI Osmo Pocket ahead of DJI’s “Because Life is Big” event. We know that DJI drones, including the Mavic 2, can handle a lot of abuse. We have seen plenty of videos in which the aircraft are doused with water, flown into trees, flown through whale snot and even submerged in fresh water. Many times the drones come out unscathed. Not this time, however. Clark Little flew his DJI Mavic 2 close to the breaking waves to capture some amazing footage, but the salty spray from 20-foot waves crashing on the shore of Hawaii proves to be more than even the DJI Mavic 2  can handle.

Another person on Twitter, who has been part of the DJI rumor mill for some time, just posted the specifications. The DJI Osmo Pocket specs show a number of things, most importantly a 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor, 24 FOV, 4K @ 60fps and 1080 @ 120fps. In a separate tweet, OsitaLV shows three of the accessories that might be included with the DJI Osmo Pocket.

Another day, another photo of the DJI Osmo Pocket… Late yesterday, we received an email with this photo of the DJI Osmo Pocket. It shows the handheld camera/gimbal combination from a different angle. The photo also provides a better sense of how small the DJI Osmo Pocket really is. It seems that DJI is serious with their reference to ‘pocket’ as this device certainly looks very pocketable and would easily fit in most pockets and bags. It looks like the ideal budget vlogger setup to be honest.

The Dutch, Boyan Slat started “The Ocean Cleanup” project a number of years ago as a teenager. His ambitious project aims to clean up the oceans from floating plastics and other debris by collecting it in a large floating catch system. A little over a month ago System 001, called Wilson, was deployed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The team uses drones as one of the tools to monitor Wilson’s performance and to conduct daily inspections. A great example of “Drones at Work.”

Good morning, in today’s video a paraglider meets drone in a good way. I thought this would be a good drone video to start the week with. The footage shows a paraglider taking off from a mountaintop and he’s being followed by a drone for some spectacular footage. The short clip was recorded at M-Hill near Bozeman, Montana. The make the video even better, they included some nice music to ease into the workweek. Enjoy!

There is no guarantee but it seems pretty safe to assume that the DJI Osmo Pocket will be released this Wednesday in New York during DJI’s “Because Life is Big” event. Here we go! Newly leaked DJI Osmo Pocket video and photos surface ahead of DJI’s “Because Life is Big” event in New York this upcoming Wednesday. The photos and video show the actual packaging of the new handheld camera and gimbal. We have now seen an initial photo early this summer, the FCC filing, the leaked photo from last week and now these leaked photos and video. It seems that we will not be seeing a new Phantom 5 this week.

Last year during the U.S. launch of Aeroscope in Washington DC, Brendan Schulman, DJI’s VP of Policy and Legal Affairs, already announced that a new geofencing system was in the works. DJI GEO 2.0 more accurately geofences the areas around airports and airfields. A big difference versus the previous version of geofencing is that DJI GEO 2.0 takes into account the orientation of runways and the flightpaths. One look at the included image will explain you the difference right away.

While most of us were enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner, DJI quietly released another DJI Mavic 2 firmware update for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom drones. The firmware update brings a number of new features and bug fixes to our favorite DJI drones. For instance, the shutter speed has been increased to up to two seconds for Hyperlapse Circle and Course Lock which is really nice. They also added precision landing, which was a feature that had been requested multiple times on the DJI Forum. The China Helicopter Research and Development Institute (CHRDI) announced earlier this week that China has developed the X-M20 “Crane”, a small drone that has a ceiling of more than 16,000 feet. A distinctive pitch control technology makes the electric drone unique according to CRHDI, China’s leading helicopter research organ of Avicopter under the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Organ deliveries must be among the most time-sensitive deliveries known to man. The more time it takes to get an organ from its donor to a patient, the greater the risk of a failed transplantation. Dr. Joseph Scalea had been looking for a better and more importantly, faster way of getting life-saving organs to his patients. This first test in which a DJI Matric 600 Pro drone successfully delivered a kidney, may be an indication that he has found one.
